The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) runs DBS checks to prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups of people. Once a DBS check has been carried out, an employer can then request to see a person’s certificate
There are three main levels of DBS check available:
- Basic Check – This check shows all unspent convictions of the applicant. Can be applied by a company or an individual.
- Standard Check – Eligible for certain roles that don’t have regular contact with children or vulnerable adults such as financial, legal and gaming.
- Enhanced Check – This is a mandatory check for roles involving children and vulnerable adults which shows all spent and unspent criminal convictions and reprimands. Not only is this checked against the Police National Computer but also against the children and adults barred lists.
Organisations can only request that their employees, job applicants, or volunteers have a DBS check carried out if they’re applying for/working in certain types of roles. For example – you’ll always need a DBS check to work as a:
- Social Worker
- Medical professional
- Foster Carer
Those working in particular settings – such as schools, nurseries, hospitals and children’s homes will also need to have a DBS check. Some roles may also require you to have a DBS check when you first enter the profession (e.g. solicitors, barristers, accountants, vets).
And, if you’re applying for a job that needs a DBS check, you’ll need to have been successful in every other aspect of your application before an employer starts the process.
As stated by the Consumer Contracts Regulations “The right to cancel can be lost during the cancellation period if the service is provided in full before the 14 days elapses”. Our service fee is for the review, manual identity verification, additional support and submission to the issuing body and we are not able to undo our service once completed. By availing of our service, you authorise dbs-check-online.org.uk to start the work immediately and this may affect your right to cancel once your order has been placed. Our processing teamwork in real-time and will in many cases have started the review of your application within minutes of you submitting your application online.
If you request cancellation of the service and a refund is agreed after the application has been checked, reviewed or verified by a member of our staff but before the application has been submitted to the issuing body, an administration fee will be calculated based on the level of work carried out to the point at which you cancelled. You will then be required to accept or decline the refund. In such circumstances where a cancellation is requested after the application has been submitted to the issuing body, no refund will be possible as the service will, at that stage, be deemed as having been completed in full.
